The blue whale is the largest animal that ever existed on earth. The length of the blue whale reaches 33 feet and weighed about 180 tons. Blue whales live in almost all oceans of the world. For over 40 years of blue whales were hunted to near extinction by hunting whales to be protected by the international community in 1966. A 2002 report estimated there were 5,000 to 12,000 blue whales worldwide
